The City of Friendswood is currently accepting applications for a Recreation Specialist in the Parks and Recreation Department.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
- To perform responsible professional work in the organization, planning, marketing, evaluation, and implementation of the City pool and all aquatic activities.
- To work directly with other staff in planning, organizing, and executing programs and special events.
WORK PERFORMED:
- Coordinate, implement, and evaluate the City Pool and Swim Lesson Program.
- Interview, select, and evaluate aquatic staff and volunteers.
- Provide training to lifeguard staff for swim lessons and overall lifeguard knowledge.
- Establish schedules for aquatic programs, such as swim lessons, swim practices, Aqua Zumba, etc.
- Teach American Red Cross Lifeguard Training classes.
- Coordinates and schedules pool rentals with local swim teams and organizations.
- Receives telephone calls and visitors; answers routine inquiries, takes messages, and routes to appropriate party.
- Greets all visitors and gives information or directions.
- Prepares daily cash receipt report and work order for Department.
- Assists with the maintenance of facilities with other divisions, departments and community groups through work orders in Incode software.
- Types memos, letters, and correspondence.
- Assists with the implementation of Adult Sports leagues and programs.
- Uses CivicRec software program to schedule usage of City parks and recreational facilities, and register participants for recreational activities and events.
- Provide general maintenance of the City Pool, as well as overall pool water quality.
- Orders pool chemicals and water testing supplies.
- Coordinate, promote, implement and evaluate a variety of recreation programs and special events including, but not limited to, Movies in the Park, Youth Sports Day, and the Pitch, Hit, & Run competition.
- Assist with the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of other recreation programs and special events including, but not limited to, Adult Sport Tournaments, Daddy Daughter Dance, and the Fitness Preview Party.
- Coordinates volunteers for all events through volunteer apps and creating relationships with different organizations including the school district, boy scouts, girl scouts, and other local entities.
- Assists with Parks & Recreation website revision and maintenance as well as social media outlets.
- Place orders for event supplies, office supplies, decorations, equipment, and other items.
- Performs other duties within areas of responsibility and ability, as assigned.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
1. Minimum Education and Experience Required to Perform the Job:
- Associate Degree or two to three years of college courses.
- Three to five years of related experience.
- Experience in municipal government.
2. Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation, or related field.
- One to three years of related experience.
- Experience in municipal government.
